You’ve taken the time to write a great piece of content and you instantly share it on social media. After that it sort of sits there dormant. Many people miss out on resharing great content on social media multiple times. Why should you reshare multiple times though?
According to Wiselytics a tweet has a half-life of about 5 minutes. What that means is after 5 minutes a tweet will only reach half of its audience. You also have to take into consideration that you have readers / users in different geographic locations. That means they are going to likely miss out on your content. Even if you are a local brand or business not all of your users are going to be online at the same time. This means you should reshare / republish your content multiple times over a month or so period.
Now this timings differs depending on the social network. The most “busy” social network is Twitter and this is where most of the time your tweets get lost in the mess of things. It has been suggested that you should reshare on Twitter 1-3 times a day. So a few hours after your initial post. then another few hours later, and even the next day.
The rest of the social networks (Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn) are a little less busy so you can reshare on a weekly basis for about a month. This will definitely get your content in front of more people.
How do you know what to reshare and what not to? Almost all of your content should be resharable as long as its current and relevant. How-to’s, guides, and lists are perfect things to reshare over and over again. The guys over at ThinkComputers share guides and articles that are sometimes a year old or older, but they are still relevant.
Another clever way to reshare old content is to match it with something like #thowbackthursday. For instance ThinkComputers could share an old review using that hastag and it would not be out of place.
If you are looking to get more exposure for your social media posts resharing is a great way to get it!
